Several initiatives strive to use data from medical care for secondary learning and research activities like. In Germany, for example, recent activities such as the Medical Informatics Initiative illustrate the increasing political and public awareness of the great potential of medical data.  Because of the sensitivity of the data involved, the secondary use of clinical data in research raises ethical, legal, and social issues that will be addressed in the lectures. The lectures are part of the research project “Learning from Clinical Data (LinCDat)”.
